In a story that almost sounds too ridiculous to be true, an argument over fries between 34-year-old Dianne Margaret Clayton and her partner Simon Hill, both from Blackburn, got so heated that she ended up stabbing him in the shoulder.

According to METRO, the argument between the pair began over who had been eating all the fries, and escalated to an incredible extent when Clayton realized her boyfriend had eaten them all. But rather than continuing to fight, she instead went to the kitchen, retrieved a knife and proceeded to stab Hill in the shoulder.

Having pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm in Blackburn Magistrates' Court over the weekend in relation to the obscure series of events, Clayton has been sentenced to 26 in prison for the assault.

Prosecuting lawyer Parveen Akhtar explained to the court how the argument took place at the couple's friends house, where they had gone round for dinner. But the homemade fries, part of the night's menu, caused an almighty rift between Dianne and Simon.

"Simon Hill ate them all and that caused [Dianne] to get angry," said the lawyer. "She was seen to slap him across the face before leaving the room. She picked up a knife in the kitchen and then stabbed him, causing a superficial injury."

According to Clayton's defense lawyer Richard Prew, his client is unable to remember what happened because she was under the influence of alcohol at the time.

"She has some injuries herself which she can't explain," he added.
