There are some major differences between the Sonic Skate-Off and an Olympic Games skating event, but you wouldn't know it the way Sonic's Carhop finalists are talking. To the five guys who've beat out hundreds of the fast food joint's other skating waiters, this is the biggest moment of their careers. A new pair of skates and $1,500 are up for grabs, and they'll be damned if they're not the one lacing up when the winner is announced.

Everyone convened in Oklahoma City — where Sonic Drive-In is headquartered — to tackle a freestyle set and a 12-part obstacle course. The latter's like the perfect storm of hurdles an on-duty Carhop might run into — closed doors; trash on the floor; a tray full of chili cheese fries, bacon doubles, and shakes — and even some they probably wouldn't: When was the last time you saw a limbo pole set up outside of a Sonic? You've got to be accurate, and you've got to be fast. The rules of Freestyle are a little more liberal: Show off your most impressive moves, and do it with flare.
