Prepping for the holidays can get overwhelming. Between the cocktails, centerpiece holiday dinner, and desserts, sometimes we barely have the energy to whip anything else up. If you’re in need of a quick and easy appetizer or a last-minute addition to your holiday party, then these caprese bites are the simple solution your guests will thank you for. Focusing on three ingredients and requiring no cooking, these bites require very little effort and time—just what we want during the busy holiday season.
All you really need to make these caprese bites are mozzarella balls, cherry tomatoes, and basil. That being said, we amped up these bites by tossing our mozzarella balls in a mixture of olive oil, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, and salt. While this is an optional step, we truly think it takes these skewers over-the-top in the flavor department. Feel free to change and adjust the seasonings to taste!
The final step for these bites is a drizzle of balsamic glaze. We like to make our balsamic glaze homemade: it’s so easy, and only requires simmering balsamic vinegar on the stovetop until thick and syrupy, usually no more than 15 minutes. That being said, if you really are short on time, you can use store-bought balsamic glaze instead.
Looking for ideas for what to serve these bites with? Bring them to your Thanksgiving potluck, or serve them alongside your other Christmas appetizers, like our stuffed mushrooms, cheese ball bites, and antipasto Christmas tree cheese ball (if you’re really looking for a show-stopper). Alternatively, serve them to start off your pasta dinner of stuffed shells or homemade lasagna.
