Cake decorating videos are like adult lullabies here at Delish: instantly soothing, impossible to ignore, and, honestly, somewhat trance-inducing. Case in point—we haven't been able to get this towering Dunkin' Donuts-inspired masterpiece out of our minds since we filmed the then-16-year-old baker at Caked Up Café in New City, NY, decorate it. So we did the only thing we could think of...tapped her to decorate some more.
Francesca Byrnes is 18 now, and she's become the resident drip cake expert at the family bakery, run by her mom, Denise. We gave Francesca minimal instruction—just come up with an insanely over-the-top cake dedicated to all-things Starbucks. Coffee obsessives, you tell us: Did we miss anything?
Didn't think so.
The green and white buttercream immediately hits you over the head with Starbucks' iconic colors. To get that ombre effect in the middle of each tier, Francesca uses a small offset spatula to draw squiggles through the frosting, blending the two colors before smoothing them out. It might tie with the chocolate ganache drips that come next for the most hypnotizing part of the video.
On the top of the cake sits a "PSL"—a Starbucks cup filled with a Rice Krispie Treat that's topped with a buttercream swirl and actual pumpkin spice. Everything else on the cake is from Starbucks' pastry case: a blueberry muffin, a slice of pumpkin bread, three vanilla bean scones, and three cakes pops—one chocolate, one birthday cake, and one chocolate chip cookie dough.
The whole thing is extra to the nth degree—but it's pretty amazing, right?
